The Usine mécanique du Cheminet was founded in 1900 by Oskar Markwalder. His name is the first to be mentioned in the company registration form. The activities were described as “metal works” (mainly stamping for the watch industry) and conducted from an office in Corcelles, at the Rue de la Gare.
1937-1973
Franz Hoffmann takes over the company from Oskar Markwalder. The enterprise produces mainly components for a grand variety of industry: stamping, forming of various metals, mass production, various springs, metal seats for workshops and offices. A well diversified production for the ex-director of the Grône mines in Valais. The Usine mécanique du Cheminet employs also a number of people coming from the Valais region. In total 12 persons (50% of women) are working for Franz Hoffmann who was one of the first to introduce the 5 days working week with 48 hours. He passed over in 1973.
